Job Description

Job Title:
Welder and Fabricator Job Description This role combines hands-on welding and fabrication with general shop support in a busy metal manufacturing environment. You will work primarily with mild steel using MIG welding, with additional TIG welding on stainless steel, to build and adjust frames and sheet metal structures from blueprints and layouts. The position requires precise fabrication, fitting, and assembly work, as well as the ability to operate and adjust welding equipment independently. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on mild steel components, including sheet metal and structural frames, to produce high-quality welds. Perform TIG welding on stainless steel as needed to meet project specifications. Read and interpret blueprints and schematics accurately to lay out, fit, and assemble parts according to design requirements. Lay out marks on sheet metal and other materials to guide cutting, fitting, and welding operations. Fabricate sheet metal framework using 16-gauge and 10-gauge sheet metal, square tubing, fittings, and various metals including stainless steel and aluminum. Adjust and set up personal Miller MIG welder to ensure proper settings for different materials and thicknesses. Weld and adjust frames to maintain proper dimensions, squareness, and structural integrity. Cut and trim raw materials to size using appropriate tools and equipment prior to fabrication and welding. Use hand tools and power tools, including grinders, to clean, smooth, and finish welded and fabricated parts. Assist with general shop duties such as grinding, assembly, and other tasks as needed to support production. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow shop safety procedures at all times. Collaborate with other shop personnel to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule. Essential Skills 1-2 years of welding experience, specifically MIG welding on mild steel. 1-2 years of experience working in a shop or manufacturing environment. Proficiency in MIG welding, including setting up and adjusting a Miller MIG welder for different materials and thicknesses. Ability to perform TIG welding on stainless steel. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics accurately for layout, fitting, and fabrication. Experience with sheet metal framework using 16-gauge and 10-gauge sheet metal and square tubing. Strong fitting skills to assemble components accurately according to layout marks and drawings. Experience working with mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum in a metal shop environment. Proficiency in using grinders and other metal finishing tools. Comfort using a variety of hand tools and power tools safely and effectively. Ability to work independently in a metal shop environment and manage multiple tasks as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience fabricating frames and structures from raw materials using blueprints and layouts. Familiarity with working in dirty, dusty, and temperature-variable shop environments. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing precise, high-quality welds and fabrications. Ability to adapt to seasonal workload changes, including working longer shifts when required. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a shop and manufacturing environment with large open doors, where conditions can be cold in the winter and hot in the summer. The facility includes typical metal shop conditions, such as dirty and dusty areas, and frequent use of grinders, welders, and other metalworking equipment. You will work Monday through Friday, typically from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with some additional hours required as needed. During the busy season, shifts may extend to 10-hour days, generally from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Standard shop attire suitable for welding and fabrication work is expected, including appropriate protective gear and clothing compatible with a metal shop environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ripon, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
