Position Summary The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for using appropriate welding techniques and equipment in accordance with specifications and quality standards. This role includes interpreting drawings, assisting with layout and fabrication, and performing testing, troubleshooting, repair, and modification of equipment, parts, and systems as needed. The Welder/Fabricator ensures all work is completed with precision, efficiency, and in full compliance with safety and industry standards. Key Job Responsibilities Read and interpret technical documents including blueprints, sketches, and 2D/3D diagrams Take and read measurements to plan layout and procedures Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements) Operate angle grinders, sandblasting machine, and other power equipment to clean and prepare metals, parts, and surfaces for welding Weld various joint types, such as lap, tee fillet, and tube-to-plate joints Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces Understand and use various manual arc welding processes, such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead) Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to identify various weld defects and discontinuities Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps Perform maintenance on all parts of the welding system, from the power source to the torch or gun, including replacing worn consumables Safely operate and perform maintenance on all welding and cutting tools and equipment. Relay any machine deficiencies to supervisor upon discovery Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety Cleans area worked on, and make vessel ready for further work or departure Stocks and assists in maintaining inventory of shop supplies, materials, tools, and equipment Maintains clean, orderly, and safe work areas; properly maintains assigned equipment and tools Documents work performed daily Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor and staff, co-workers, guests, vendors, contractors, etc. Following company, industry and best practices regarding safety standards (safe equipment usage, personal protective equipment, reporting) Note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Required Competencies Problem Solving Equipment Operation and Maintenance Welding Knowledge Attention to Detail Education, Work Experience, Licenses, and Certificates Years of relevant work experience required: minimum 2 years' experience as a welder/fabricator Flexible to work overtime, if needed, to meet the company needs Required licenses or certificates: AWS/ABS certification preferred ( Must pass AWS certification test for 3G and 4G (plate) and 6G (pipe) positions after employment )
