POSITION SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of this position is to perform maintenance and minor repairs on containers and chassis. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. QUALIFICATIONS
Required Minimum one (1) year of welding experience. Experience and ability to use common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers. Must be able to read, write, and speak basic English. Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information. Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment. Ability to work with limited supervision and strong initiative. Must possess good organizational and time management skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors and fellow employees. Ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions, and make sound decisions. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment. Preferred Basic welding certification. Experience in industrial painting. Welding experience in container maintenance/repair.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Learns the intricacies and best practices of container and chassis repairs under the guidance of experienced Container/Chassis Mechanics. Assists the Container/Chassis Mechanic II on minor container repairs, which include roofs, welding, gaskets, floors, and doors. Performs routine and preventative maintenance duties. Performs preparation work of equipment to be painted, including bending, pulling, pushing, shaping, and straightening required to repair/refurbish equipment. Paints the exterior of all containers and chassis. Paints the markers identifying the containers with the use of stencils. Inspects container body, tagging them according. Performs the clean-up duty associated with the container repair work. Must maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards. Secondary Operates a forklift and company vehicles, as needed. Washes and sanitizes containers to cover bookings. Assists the Container/Chassis Mechanic II on minor chassis restructure and repairs, replacement and repairs on chassis brakes. Additional duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee is continuously required to stand, walk, grasp, forward reach and use eye-hand coordination. The employee is continuously required to push/pull up to 10 pounds. The employee is frequently required to reach overhead and lift up to 30 pounds, carry up to 20 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, forward bend, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, pinch, use finger dexterity, respective foot and wrist motion and eye-hand-foot coordination. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds and push/pull up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Report safety hazards. Immediately reports incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage. Wear appropriate PPE as instructed by the supervisor. Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules. Refuse any unsafe tasks or operation. Participate in safety meetings and training. Awareness of their personal safety and that of their coworkers.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direct supervision from the Maintenance & Repair Supervisor and Manager; may assist other Mechanics in the performance of container or chassis repairs.
Does not exercise supervision over any position.
CONDITIONS
Exposure to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity during day and night shifts. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. Moderate to high noise volume. High vibration with use of sledgehammer and moderate vibration with use of hydraulic seating system.
