You will move between welding and other areas of the fabrication department, operating a variety of tools and equipment while adjusting welding parameters to accommodate different steel thicknesses. The position includes both panel welding, which involves more basic straight-line welds, and tank welding, which requires horizontal, vertical, and overhead welding on heavier gauge, galvanized steel. Responsibilities Perform MIG welding on various metals, including mild steel in 1/4", 7-gauge, and 11-gauge thicknesses, in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions while maintaining high precision and efficiency. Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, as well as bills of materials, to fabricate and weld components according to specifications. Adjust welder settings to accommodate varying thicknesses of steel and ensure proper penetration, quality, and appearance of welds. Fabricate base and tank components, including panel welding with straight-line welds and tank welding that involves more complex weld positions. Operate welders, grinders, drills, and a variety of hand and power tools, as well as measuring devices, to complete fabrication tasks safely and accurately. Operate overhead cranes and forklifts when certified, following all safety procedures and guidelines. Move between welding and other areas of the fabrication department as needed, supporting production requirements and contributing to a flexible team environment. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are used properly and stored safely. Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment, safe operation of machinery, and adherence to facility procedures. Essential Skills Proficiency in MIG welding on mild steel, including 1/4", 7-gauge, and 11-gauge materials. Ability to perform MIG welding in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions while maintaining consistent quality. Strong blueprint reading skills and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials. Experience in fabrication, including cutting, fitting, and assembling steel components. Capability to adjust welding equipment to accommodate varying thicknesses of steel. Ability to operate welders, grinders, drills, hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices safely and effectively. Capability to perform base and tank welding, including panel welding with straight-line welds and more complex tank welds. Willingness and ability to multi-task and move between welding and other fabrication tasks as production demands. Basic mechanical aptitude and attention to detail to ensure accurate and high-quality welds and assemblies. Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications D1.1 welding certification required for tank welders working on heavier gauge, galvanized steel. D1.3 welding certification is a plus for tank welders and considered a bonus qualification. Experience working with heavier gauge, galvanized steel in a fabrication or tank welding environment.
