Summary/Objective The Welder I uses hand welding equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products. Duties and responsibilities Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions Verify that parts being used in welding process are consistent and proper to adhere to requirements per first piece produced Monitor quality to assure consistent and acceptable welds Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications Review and interpret engineer change requests when needed and submit change requests to improve production Understand the amount of pieces that need to be welded per hour, required welded pieces per job, and be able to achieve those goals Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade Consists of using welding equipment such as MIG/TIG/Stick Keep the assigned workstation swept and cleaned as necessary; keep clutter and trip hazards out of work areas Use PPE, per training, as required for the specific task being performed Other jobs and/or duties as directed by fabrication supervisor Qualifications Interpret blueprints, welding symbols and layout instructions Education/Experience High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) Technical certificate or vocational training in welding or equivalent of experience #MS4
