Welder Job Description The Welder fabricates and assembles metal carts, cabinets, and stainless-steel tables and carts using MIG and TIG welding processes in a production environment. This role requires the ability to work safely and efficiently while handling materials, operating tools and equipment, and maintaining quality standards throughout the welding and assembly process. The position is physically demanding and involves standing, walking, bending, twisting, and lifting for extended periods during a shift. Responsibilities Perform MIG and TIG welding to fabricate and assemble metal carts, cabinets, and stainless-steel tables and carts according to job specifications. Determine the appropriate welding process, equipment, and methods based on product requirements and drawings. Set up components, parts, and workpieces for welding, ensuring correct alignment, fit, and securement prior to welding. Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions to complete welding and fabrication tasks accurately. Follow all safe manufacturing practices, material handling procedures, and required personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines at all times. Use hand and power tools to prepare, weld, and finish components as required by the production schedule. Perform quality checks on all finished welds and assemblies to ensure they meet established standards and specifications. Keep the work area organized, clean, and free of unnecessary clutter to support safety and efficiency. Follow written and verbal directions from supervisors or leads to complete assignments and production jobs on time. Perform other related duties as assigned to support production and manufacturing operations. Essential Skills MIG welding experience, with a welding certificate or 1-3 years of on-the-job MIG welding experience (schooling and on-the-job experience may be combined). Experience with TIG welding in a production or fabrication environment. Proficiency in metal fabrication, including fitting and assembling metal components. Ability to read and interpret blueprints to guide welding and fabrication work. Proficiency with hand and power tools commonly used in welding and fabrication. Ability to accurately use a tape measure and other basic measuring tools. Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, twist, stoop, pull, push, assemble, and carry for extended periods of up to 10 hours per day. Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds with assistance from another team member. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to safety and PPE procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a production or manufacturing welding environment. Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Strong work ethic and reliability in meeting production schedules and deadlines. Work Environment This is a manufacturing environment with both first and second shift options. First shift typically runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and second shift runs Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The facility operates as a typical manufacturing shop that can become hot in the summer, with conditions that are not excessively dirty and not exceptionally clean. Work involves regular use of welding equipment, hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices, along with required PPE appropriate for welding and fabrication tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $25.00/hr.
