Job Description

Job Title:
Solderer Job Description This role focuses on precision hand soldering of through-hole electronic components, wires, and connectors on printed circuit boards and assemblies during the 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.). You will follow detailed work instructions and industry standards to build, inspect, and rework high-reliability electronic products in a clean, ESD-controlled manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Perform precision hand soldering of through-hole electronic components in accordance with Method E standards. Solder wires, leads, and connectors to printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electronic assemblies. Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings to ensure accurate builds. Inspect solder joints and completed assemblies for quality, reliability, and compliance with IPC standards. Perform rework and touch-up soldering on boards and assemblies as needed to meet quality requirements. Use wire stripping, tinning, and termination techniques to prepare and connect conductors. Handle and assemble small electronic components with a high level of precision and care. Operate microscopes or magnification tools to perform detailed soldering and inspection tasks. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and detailed work instructions throughout the production process. Maintain clean, organized, and ESD-safe workstations, including proper storage and handling of tools and materials. Adhere to all safety procedures and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) requirements when working with sensitive components. Meet established quality, productivity, and schedule expectations in a fast-paced, high-mix production environment. Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to resolve issues and support continuous improvement. Document work as required and report any defects, nonconformances, or process issues to appropriate personnel. Essential Skills Proven experience in electronics manufacturing or electronic assembly environments. Strong precision hand soldering skills for through-hole, wire, and component-level work. Knowledge of Method E soldering standards and their practical application. Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings accurately. Familiarity with IPC-A-610 and/or
J-STD-001
standards for electronic assembly quality. Strong attention to detail and quality-focused inspection skills. Manual dexterity and steady hand coordination for fine soldering and component handling. Experience with wire stripping, tinning, and termination techniques. Ability to perform rework and repair of solder joints without compromising product integrity. Awareness of ESD principles and safe handling of sensitive electronic components. Ability to work with microscopes or other magnification tools for soldering and inspection. Proficiency with hand tools such as soldering irons, cutters, and crimpers. Basic understanding of electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, and connectors. Ability to follow detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks in a high-mix environment. Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills. Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement practices. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certification in IPC standards, such as IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001, is preferred. Experience working in a fast-paced, high-mix electronics production environment. Comfort working with repetitive hand movements and handling small components and wires. Ability to maintain focus and accuracy during extended periods of detailed work. Willingness to work the 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.) on a consistent basis. Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work in a clean, well-lit, temperature-controlled manufacturing facility designed specifically for electronics assembly. The workspace includes ESD-controlled workstations and individual benches or assembly stations equipped with soldering irons, microscopes, and precision hand tools. Most tasks are performed while seated, with occasional standing or light movement throughout the shift, and involve repetitive hand motions and handling of small components and wires. The production environment requires high attention to detail and adherence to defined quality and productivity standards. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and ESD safeguards are required and provided, supporting a safe and well-organized workplace for the full 2nd shift schedule of 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Rolling Meadows, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
