Civan Lasers is a global leader in laser welding technology, specializing in Dynamic Beam Lasers (DBL) for advanced welding. Our technology enables unprecedented control over laser beam shapes and dynamics, creating new opportunities in industrial manufacturing across shipbuilding, automotive, aerospace, energy, and defense industries. As part of our growth in North America, we are expanding our application lab team to support customer trials, demonstrations, and welding process development.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Welding Technician to support operation of the Civan laser systems and day to day activities in our U.S. application lab. This role focuses on operating laser welding equipment, preparing and executing welding trials, preparing metallographic samples, and assisting with lab setup and maintenance. The technician will work closely with welding engineers to support process development, demonstrations, and customer projects.
Responsibilities:
Operate automated laser welding equipment: Run welding trials using Civan's Dynamic Beam Laser welding system under the guidance of welding engineers. Set up fixtures, process material, and develop welding parameters for experiments and demonstrations.
Prepare samples and test coupons:
Prepare metal samples for welding trials and metallographic analysis.
Perform cross section preparation:
Prepare weld cross sections including cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching for metallographic inspection.
Support welding trials and demonstrations:
Assist during internal testing and customer demonstrations by preparing parts, operating equipment, and documenting test conditions.
Maintain lab equipment and tools:
Ensure that laser systems, fixtures, preparation tools, and metallography equipment are clean, organized, and ready for use.
Record and document test results:
Document trial parameters, results, and observations. Capture photos and measurements of weld cross sections and test samples. Assist with material handling and lab logistics: Manage incoming materials, maintain inventory of consumables, and support preparation of test parts.
Ensure safe operation of equipment:
Follow laser safety procedures, maintain proper PPE use, and support safe operation of the application lab.
Requirements:
Hands-on experience working in a welding shop, fabrication shop, and/or metallurgical laboratory Experience operating welding equipment and/or welding related industrial machines. Familiarity with cutting, grinding, polishing, and etching welded samples. Ability to read basic technical drawings and follow test instructions. Strong attention to detail and good documentation habits. Comfortable working in a hands-on laboratory environment and supporting engineering teams. General knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and/or PowerPoint Physical requirements: Willing and able to sit or stand for prolonged periods Willing and able to lift up to 35 lbs
Education/Experience Requirements:
An associate's degree in welding, fabrication, and/or manufacturing related program OR as a substitute to a degree, a minimum of 5 years in welding, fabrication, and/or manufacturing related roles
