Job Description
Job Summary Switcher Electric / APT is hiring a Welder / Fabricator to join our fabrication department at our modern manufacturing facility in Lafayette, Indiana. We design and build high-quality generator and distribution switchboards, switchgear, and control panels for critical power applications. In this role you will perform MIG welding on a variety of parts, enclosures, structural frames that support switchgear, and other components as needed by the fab team. The work is varied and hands-on — you'll support whatever the fabrication department needs to keep production moving. Key Responsibilities Perform quality MIG welding on mild steel parts, enclosures, frames, and structural components for switchgear and related equipment Fit, layout, and weld assemblies according to drawings and work orders Support the broader fabrication department with welding needs as they arise Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols Inspect your own welds for quality and make adjustments as needed Maintain welding equipment, tools, and a clean, safe work area Follow all safety procedures and work collaboratively with the fab and production teams to meet quality and schedule goals Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Reliable attendance and transportation Proven MIG welding experience Ability to read blueprints and welding symbols Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and a strong team player Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods Welding certification(s) preferred but not required Willingness to take and pass a hands-on MIG weld test What We Offer Competitive hourly pay Health, dental, vision, and life insurance Paid time off and paid holidays Performance-based profit-sharing bonus Clean, modern facility with tools and equipment provided First-shift schedule with overtime potential Opportunity to work on meaningful switchgear and power-equipment projects Join a stable, collaborative fabrication team building critical power systems — apply today!
