Welding Group Leader 2nd Shift South Bend, IN Job Details Full-time 22 hours ago Qualifications Defect detection (quality control) Finished product defect inspection Maintaining an organized workspace Blueprint specification interpretation Safety regulations Shift management Mid-level Improving operational efficiency Metal fabrication Manufacturing standard operating procedures Continuous improvement Mentoring Quality standards in production Welding Technical skills instruction Clean workspace maintenance Crew management Production records Cross-functional communication Full Job Description Essential Duties & Responsibilities Supervise daily activities of welding team members to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. Assign and adjust work based on production priorities, material flow, and workforce availability to meet output targets. Train and mentor welders on welding techniques, equipment operation, safety procedures, and quality expectations. Inspect welds and completed assemblies for accuracy, penetration, alignment, and adherence to specifications and welding codes. Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and work instructions to guide team execution. Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to coordinate work and resolve production issues. Ensure all welding activities comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety regulations, and company policies. Monitor welding equipment performance and report malfunctions, defects, or downtime promptly. Complete production reports, weld logs, and required documentation accurately and on time. Support continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimization, waste reduction, and efficiency improvements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe welding area, ensuring proper storage of materials and tools. Perform welding and fabrication work alongside team members as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned. Attendance Must maintain regular and consistent attendance in accordance with the Nello attendance policy. Regular and consistent attendance can be defined as working 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, or other determined hours, days, and/or weeks as required by the direct supervisor or management to meet business objectives. Must be willing and able to work daily, weekly, or weekend overtime as needed. Safety Requirements Must be committed to maintaining a high standard of safety and complying with all applicable safety laws, policies, and procedures. Must follow all welding-specific safety practices, including proper use of PPE, ventilation systems, and safe handling of materials and equipment.
