What You Can Expect Working in The Skilled Welder Position The Skilled Welder I is responsible for the fabrication, weld, and final installation of steel components in the production of blast-resistant, modular buildings and other industrial buildings. In this role, you will be required to work with cranes, jigs, torches, plasma, hand tools and welding machines on a continual basis and to meet third-party inspection requirements under AWS compliance standards. As a Skilled Welder I, you are integral in supporting RedGuard's goal of delivering customers a quality product on time. Responsibilities
- Welds components in flat, vertical and overhead positions.
- Assists daily fit up and lay out duties.
- Fabricates pieces, ensuring conformance with product specifications and blueprints.
- Minimizes scrap and rework and works to continually improve quality level.
- Maintains schedule and budgets for the task at hand and overall project.
- Cross-trains and uses additional trade skills in multiple stages of the manufacturing process as assigned.
- Follows established safety and security rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area and environment. Requirements Minimum Qualifications
- Prior experience with structural steel welding.
- Proficient in industry-standard welding techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and product specifications accurately.
- Solid basic math skills, including the ability to read a tape measure.
- Skilled in using common hand and power tools, including grinders, squares, come-alongs, torches, plasma cutters, and other job-specific tools.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Must pass company-required 3G/4G welding certifications within three working weeks of employment, with no more than three attempts. Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree or technical certificate in welding.
- 2+ years in fitting/welding trades in structural steel construction.
- 2+ years of Short Arc and Spray Arc MIG experience.
- 2+ years of fabrication experience. - Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work involves standing, climbing, kneeling, bending, and twisting of body parts throughout the day.
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing a computer terminal; reading blueprints; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and fabrication/welding of parts at distances close to the eyes.
- The worker is exposed to adverse environmental conditions, such as hot and cold climates, dusty, and noisy areas.
- Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Must have full use of both hands and arms to perform tasks requiring coordination, strength, and fine motor skills.
