Based on approved Pay Scale by the Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury Position Overview The Welder/Fabricator for the Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury is responsible for performing welding, fabrication, and metal repair work on parish-owned vehicles, equipment, structures, and facilities. This position supports the maintenance and longevity of parish assets by repairing damaged equipment, fabricating custom components, and assisting with preventative maintenance projects. The Welder/Fabricator will also assist the Mechanic with equipment repairs and maintenance as needed to help ensure efficient operation of the parish fleet and equipment. The employee must work safely, efficiently, and professionally under the direction of the Road Administrator. Key Responsibilities Welding and Fabrication Perform MIG, TIG, stick, and other welding processes as required on parish-owned equipment and facilities. Fabricate, modify, and repair metal components, brackets, attachments, trailers, gates, culverts, and other structures. Repair cracked frames, buckets, mower decks, trailers, truck bodies, and other equipment components. Operate cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, drill presses, and other fabrication equipment. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and specifications to complete fabrication projects. Design and fabricate custom solutions to support parish operations. Equipment Maintenance and Repair Assist in repairing and maintaining parish-owned vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks, tractors, graders, excavators, mowers, and pickups. Assist the Mechanic with mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance, and equipment inspections as needed. Remove, install, and modify equipment components to facilitate repairs and upgrades. Identify equipment issues and report recommendations for repair or replacement. Shop Operations and Safety Maintain a clean, organized, and safe welding and fabrication shop. Ensure welding equipment, tools, and supplies are properly maintained and stored. Follow all applicable safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment. Ensure completed work meets quality and safety standards before equipment is returned to service. Team Collaboration and Field Support Coordinate with Equipment Operators, Foremen, and the Mechanic to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime. Provide welding and fabrication support in the field as necessary. Assist with emergency repairs during storm events, equipment failures, and other operational needs. Occasionally assist with transporting equipment, materials, and supplies using parish vehicles. Additional Duties Assist with maintenance and improvement projects at parish facilities and road yards. Assist with inventory and organization of welding materials, steel stock, and fabrication supplies. Transport equipment and materials to and from job sites as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by the Road Administrator. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of 2 years of welding and fabrication experience preferred. Experience with heavy equipment, truck, or industrial welding preferred. Valid driver's license required. Note, within 90 days of employment, employee must obtain a Class D Chauffer's license. Desired Skills and Attributes Proficiency in welding, cutting, and metal fabrication techniques. Ability to safely operate welding and fabrication equipment. Working knowledge of heavy equipment and vehicle components. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Dependable, safety-minded, and capable of working in outdoor and shop environments. Strong work ethic and ability to complete tasks efficiently. Ability to lift heavy materials and perform physically demanding work. Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Work Hours Hours:
Standard workweek is Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility required for emergencies, storm response, or special projects. Alternate work schedules may be utilized as needs arise. Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
