Curious about the work? Let's break it down. What will you build? Structural assemblies including plates, beams, frames, brackets, foundations, supports, and related components. How will you do it? Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, weld symbols, and job specifications to plan each weld. Select the right process—FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, or others—based on facility requirements and materials like steel or aluminum. Prepare materials through grinding, beveling, cleaning, fitting, and precise positioning. Use grinders, torches, welding machines, hand tools, and measuring tools to execute quality welds. Where will you work? Confined spaces Elevated areas Onboard vessels Shop environments What keeps you safe? Consistent adherence to company and client safety rules and the proper use of PPE. What do you need to qualify? Proven experience as a structural welder in a shipyard, fabrication shop, or industrial environment. Ability to pass a practical, hands-on welding test. Competence in reading basic blueprints, understanding weld symbols, and taking accurate measurements. Knowledge of welding safety and correct PPE usage. Comfort operating grinders, torches, welding power sources, hand tools, and measuring devices. Capability to work solo or collaborate within a crew.
