Summary Southern Iron Works is seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator to join our team in New Iberia, Louisiana. The ideal candidate will have experience reading fabrication drawings, fitting and fabricating structural steel and miscellaneous metals, and performing quality welds with minimal supervision. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, values safety, and enjoys building custom projects from start to finish. Responsibilities Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols Measure, layout, cut, fit, and fabricate metal Perform MIG, FCAW, and Stick Welding Fabricate structural steel, platforms, stairs, handrails, supports, and custom assemblies Operate fabrication equipment including saw, grinders, drill presses, ironworkers, and other shop tools. Verify dimensions, tolerances, and squareness before final welding Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met Assist with material handling and shop operations Maintain a clean and safe work area Follow all company safety policies and procedures Qualifications Minimum 3 years of welding and fabrication experience preferred Ability to read fabrication drawings and weld symbols Experience with MIG and Stick welding required Strong measuring, layout, and fitting skills Knowledge of structural steel fabrication preferred Ability to safely operate fabrication equipment and power tools Reliable transportation and strong work ethic Ability to work independently and as part of a team Applicants may be required to complete a hands-on welding and fabrication test demonstrating blueprint reading, layout, fit-up, and welding skills.
