Welder Job Description This first-shift welding role focuses on fabricating and welding compactors, front-loads, and hook-lifts using MIG welding techniques. You will work closely with a collaborative team, follow blueprints, and ensure that all finished products meet established quality standards. Responsibilities Participate in a morning meeting with your direct supervisor to review the daily work schedule, assignments, and required materials. Set up and prepare work areas, tools, and materials needed for welding compactors, front-loads, and hook-lifts. Perform MIG welding on a variety of components and assemblies according to specifications and blueprints. Read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols to determine measurements, layout, and weld requirements. Collaborate with other welders and team members to coordinate tasks and ensure efficient workflow. Inspect welds and finished assemblies to verify that quality standards and specifications are met. Use measuring tools, including tape measures, to confirm accurate dimensions and tolerances. Apply basic math skills, including fractions and multiplication, to measure, cut, and fit materials correctly. Lift and move materials and components weighing up to 45 pounds as needed for welding and fabrication tasks. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with company safety practices. Essential Skills MIG welding experience. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Basic math skills, including working with fractions and multiplication. Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure. Capability to lift up to 45 pounds on a regular basis. Experience with welding, weld inspection, and fabrication processes. Ability to collaborate effectively with other welders and team members. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with compactors, front-loads, or hook-lifts is beneficial. Comfort working in a fast-paced, team-oriented fabrication environment. Work Environment This is a first-shift position with typical hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional overtime as needed. You will work in a fabrication and welding shop environment that involves using MIG welding equipment, measuring tools such as tape measures, and handling metal components and assemblies. The role requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 45 pounds, and collaborating closely with other welders and supervisors in a hands-on, production-focused setting. Appropriate work attire suitable for a welding and fabrication shop, including required personal protective equipment, is expected. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Holyoke, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $27.00/hr.
