Structural Welder Key Responsibilities Skilled in general mechanical abilities. Skilled in general aerospace fabrication. Must be able to read blueprints, layout to tight tolerances. Prepares structural metal products for welding and riveting. Standard Duties Joins together components of fabricated sheet metal assemblies; cut, trim, or scarf metal objects to dimensions, as specified by layout, work orders, or blueprints. Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers and rulers. Analyzes work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications. Operates fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill or otherwise form and assembles components. Position, align, fit and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, follows blueprints and layout specifications, and uses appropriate tools and equipment. Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Tack-weld fitted parts together. Interprets engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences. Requirements High school degree or equivalent education/experience plus three years trade related experience preferred. Certification required. Standing, bending, stooping, lifting up to 70 lbs. Capabilities Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals. Ability to monitor gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly. Read and understand work orders.
