Structural Fitter/Welder Job Description We are seeking a skilled Structural Fitter/Welder who can read blueprints, assemble, fit, and weld large steel assemblies for building trades. This role involves working with I-beams, trusses, handrails, and stairs in a large, barn-like room. You will be performing all MIG welding on structural steel using overhead cranes for setup. Responsibilities Take prints and assigned projects, gather materials, and assemble, fit, and weld to specifications. Perform welding and fitting on large steel assemblies such as I-beams and trusses. Work on handrails and stairs using MIG welding techniques. Utilize overhead cranes to set up and position workpieces. Conduct a significant amount of cutting, trimming, grinding, and fitting of assemblies. Receive structural steel blueprints from the detailer and layout steel on a table. Use Flux Core to tack assemblies together, followed by MIG welding. Essential Skills 1 year of experience in structural blueprint reading and understanding weld symbols. 1 year of fitting experience, including laying out steel according to blueprints. 1 year of structural welding experience using MIG within the last 2 years. Additional Skills & Qualifications Proficiency in reading drawings and blueprints. Experience welding on wide flange, pipe, handrail, columns, beams. Work Environment This position operates on a 1st shift schedule, Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, with additional hours on Saturday from 6:00 am to 11:00/12:00 pm. Work is conducted in a giant single-room shop equipped with CNC machines, large overhead cranes, and a beam line for raw stock. The team consists of 4 fitters and 2 welders working collaboratively to maintain production. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saginaw, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
