Job Description
Solderer Job Description The Solderer performs precise hand soldering and rework of electronic components on printed circuit boards, flex circuits, and related assemblies in a manufacturing environment. This role follows established procedures and quality standards, uses a variety of soldering tools and inspection methods, and works closely with engineering and production teams to ensure reliable, high-quality electronic assemblies. Responsibilities Perform hand soldering of surface mount (SMD), through-hole, and other electronic components onto PCBs, flex circuits, and related assemblies in accordance with established procedures and quality standards. Utilize soldering irons, hot air tools, and other hand tools to produce consistent, high-quality solder joints. Inspect soldered connections for quality, including proper wetting, accurate component placement, and absence of defects such as cold joints, solder bridges, and excess solder. Rework and repair defective solder joints and assemblies as needed to meet quality and reliability requirements. Read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, blueprints, and detailed work instructions to complete assemblies correctly. Perform microscope inspection and visual inspection of small components and solder joints to verify conformance to standards. Maintain accurate records of work performed, including component tracking, lot traceability, and any rework completed. Follow all safety regulations, procedures, and guidelines while using soldering equipment, hand tools, and power tools. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area, including proper handling and storage of tools, materials, and assemblies. Collaborate with engineers, production staff, and other team members to resolve production issues and improve assembly processes. Participate in continuous improvement activities focused on quality, efficiency, and process enhancement in electronic and mechanical assembly. Perform related electronic, electrical, and mechanical assembly tasks, including PCB assembly, SMT assembly, wiring, and basic troubleshooting as required. Support inspection and production activities, including wave solder processes and use of appropriate tooling, when needed. Carry out other related duties as assigned to support overall production goals. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. Proven experience of 2 or more years as a hand solder technician or solderer in a manufacturing environment. Strong hands-on soldering experience with surface mount (SMD) and through-hole components. Ability to perform electronic assembly and PCB assembly to defined quality standards. Strong understanding of IPC standards (for example, IPC-A-610) and quality control procedures. Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, blueprints, schematics, and detailed work instructions. Experience working with small components under magnification and performing microscope inspection. Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for fine soldering and rework. Proficiency with soldering equipment, including Hakko and Weller tools. Experience using hand tools and power tools safely in a production environment. Ability to perform basic troubleshooting on soldered assemblies and related electrical connections. Experience in electronic, electrical, and mechanical assembly within a manufacturing setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in highly regulated industries such as aerospace and medical devices. Familiarity with surface-mount technology (SMT) processes, including SMT assembly and rework. Experience with wave solder operations and related inspection. Knowledge of circuit boards, wiring practices, and general electronics principles. Comfort working with tooling and fixtures to support repeatable assembly processes. Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting strict quality requirements. Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, production, and inspection teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
