Job Description
Job Summary AK Sales & Consulting, Inc. is seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator to join our team. This position primarily focuses on welding, metal fabrication, and the repair of steel components, trailers, vehicles, and construction equipment. The successful candidate will also assist with general mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance as needed. AK Sales & Consulting, Inc. has provided athletic equipment, recreational products, site furnishings, and specialty construction solutions throughout New Mexico and the Southwest for over 20 years. We are looking for a dependable and safety-conscious individual who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work. Primary Welding and Fabrication Responsibilities Perform MIG and stick welding on steel components. Fabricate and repair brackets, frames, trailers, equipment parts, and miscellaneous steel components. Read and interpret basic drawings, measurements, and fabrication instructions. Measure, mark, cut, fit, tack, and weld materials according to project requirements. Use welders, grinders, cutting tools, drills, and other fabrication equipment safely. Inspect completed welds and fabricated components for strength, accuracy, and workmanship. Prepare metal surfaces for welding, fabrication, finishing, or painting. Repair cracked, damaged, or worn metal components. Assist with custom fabrication projects for construction and equipment installations. Maintain welding machines, tools, and fabrication equipment in safe working condition. Secondary Mechanic and Maintenance Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on company vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment, and small equipment. Assist with diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and equipment problems. Conduct routine inspections to identify repair and maintenance needs before breakdowns occur. Assist with the installation, setup, and maintenance of shop equipment. Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records. Occasionally assist field crews with equipment repairs, welding, fabrication, or project support. Operate forklifts and other equipment safely. Keep the welding area, shop, yard, and work areas clean, organized, and safe. Required Qualifications Previous professional welding and metal fabrication experience is required. Experience with MIG and stick welding is required. Ability to measure, cut, fit, and fabricate steel components accurately. Ability to safely operate welding machines, grinders, cutting tools, hand tools, and power tools. Working knowledge of proper welding procedures and shop safety practices. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and complete assignments efficiently. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Valid driver's license is required. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Experience repairing or fabricating trailers, brackets, frames, and construction equipment. Experience working on trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, or small engines. CDL is a plus but is not required.
