Welder / Fabricator Job Description This 1st shift Welder / Fabricator role focuses on performing high-quality MIG, TIG, and Arc welding during the assembly of diverse metal components in accordance with detailed customer drawings and production work orders. You will contribute to both new builds and repair welds on heavy steel and stainless steel, ensuring accuracy, safety, and consistent product quality in a modern manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Perform MIG, TIG, and Arc welding techniques to fabricate and assemble metal components according to customer drawings and work order instructions. Set up, operate, and adjust welding equipment to meet established specifications and production requirements. Ensure all weld operations comply with production work orders, technical drawings, and established welding procedures. Conduct thorough self-inspection of welds using drawings, fixtures, jigs, and measuring tools to verify quality and conformance. Work independently or as part of a team to meet pre-established production objectives with limited to no supervision. Follow all safety procedures when handling parts and operating equipment to prevent injury and avoid damage to materials or machinery. Participate actively in new product introductions by providing feedback and suggesting new welding approaches and techniques to improve production efficiency and quality. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance welding processes and workflow. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, keeping the workplace free of dangerous obstacles and debris. Perform routine maintenance on welding machines as outlined in maintenance procedure manuals to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Use blueprints and interactive work instructions to plan and execute welding tasks accurately. Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to resolve welding or fabrication issues and ensure on-time completion of work orders. Essential Skills Minimum of 5+ years of experience in MIG and TIG welding. Experience performing Arc welding in a production or fabrication environment. Proven experience welding heavy steel and stainless steel components. Hands-on experience with both new build welds and repair welds. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding diagrams. Proficiency with MIG, TIG, flux core (FCAW), and stainless steel welding processes. High school diploma or GED. Strong manual dexterity and fine motor skills for precise welding work. Effective troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve welding and fabrication issues. Ability to work independently with limited supervision as well as collaboratively within a team. Ability to adapt easily to changing priorities, products, and production requirements. Commitment to following safety procedures and quality standards at all times. Additional Skills & Qualifications Comfort using fixtures, jigs, and measuring tools for inspection and setup. Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong attention to detail and a focus on producing high-quality, consistent welds. Willingness to participate in continuous improvement and new product introduction activities. Work Environment This position operates in a manufacturing setting with regular exposure to heavy equipment, machinery, and associated noise levels. You will primarily work in a standing position for up to six or more hours per day, with some tasks requiring short periods of sitting. The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds using proper ergonomic techniques. The facility is well maintained, with excellent lighting and modern equipment to support safe and efficient work. Appropriate industrial work attire and personal protective equipment are required to safely perform welding and fabrication tasks in this environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Binghamton, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
