Job Description
Job Overview Mende Welds is seeking a motivated, dependable, and skilled Welder/Fabricator to join our growing team. Unlike a traditional shop position, this role is primarily field-based , with most work performed at customer locations throughout Central New York. We specialize in mobile welding, structural steel repairs, trailer repairs, custom metal fabrication, HVAC service, and mechanical contracting . This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects including structural welding, heavy equipment repairs, trailer frame repairs, custom fabrication, HVAC installations, rooftop units (RTUs), piping systems, and commercial mechanical projects. No two days are the same. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently in the field, solving problems on-site, and representing the company professionally while interacting with customers. Responsibilities Perform field welding and fabrication at customer locations. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and project specifications. Perform MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and FCAW welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Fabricate, fit, and install structural steel components, brackets, supports, handrails, stairs, and custom metal assemblies. Repair trailers, equipment, truck bodies, hitches, outriggers, crossmembers, and structural frames. Operate welding machines, plasma cutters, torches, grinders, saws, and other fabrication equipment. Safely operate service trucks and maintain tools and equipment. Perform rigging, material handling, and lifting operations as required. Assist with HVAC projects including rooftop units, furnaces, boilers, mini-splits, ductwork, refrigeration piping, and mechanical installations. Troubleshoot and solve field installation challenges independently. Follow company safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment. Complete job documentation, photos, and daily reports as required. Qualifications Previous welding and fabrication experience required. Experience with MIG, TIG, FCAW, and Stick welding. Ability to read blueprints and fabrication drawings. Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and repair. Experience using fabrication equipment, hand tools, and power tools. Valid driver's license with clean driving record. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding work. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications HVAC experience or willingness to learn HVAC systems. EPA 608 Certification. Pipe welding experience. Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification. What We Offer Competitive pay based on experience.
