Temp-to-Hire Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Shop Welder/Fabricator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the fabrication and operational testing of custom equipment and machines. You will work with a variety of tools, machinery, and welding processes to produce high-quality components that meet engineering specifications. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read blueprints, and a commitment to precision and safety. Will be welding GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW. Key Responsibilities Fabrication & Assembly Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, erection drawings, and weld symbols. Layout, fit, and fabricate structural steel components including: Beams, columns, braces. Base plates, gusset plates, stiffeners, and other parts Perform accurate measurements, layout, and marking using tapes, squares, levels, and layout tools. Assemble components using clamps, fixtures, and jigs to meet dimensional tolerances. Welding & Cutting Perform welding in accordance with WPS requirements (FCAW). Perform thermal cutting (oxy-fuel and/or plasma) and grinding as required. Maintain weld quality and appearance to meet visual and dimensional inspection criteria. Correct weld defects when identified. Equipment & Material Handling Safely operate fabrication equipment such as: Overhead cranes and hoists Assist with loading, rotating, and staging material using cranes and rigging. Quality & Documentation Fabricate work in accordance with AISC Quality Management System requirements. Verify material heat numbers, piece marks, and orientation. Perform self-inspection of work and correct issues before QC inspection. Communicate discrepancies in drawings or materials to supervision. Safety & Teamwork Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements. Use proper PPE and follow lockout/tagout and rigging procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Work collaboratively with foremen, welders, fitters, and QC personnel.
Qualifications:
3 years of experience in structural steel fabrication. Strong ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings and weld symbols. Proficiency in layout, fitting, and fabrication of structural steel. Welding experience. Experience operating overhead cranes. Strong understanding of steel fabrication tolerances and quality requirements. Dependable, safety-oriented, and quality-focused.
Preferred Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent 3-5 years of machine fabrication experience or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience working with sheet metal Welding certification preferred
Additional Requirements:
Must be eligible to work in the United States Must have reliable transportation to the job site Pre-employment drug screen and background check are required
