Job Title:
Welder - Metal Fabrication Job Description This role focuses on precision welding within a modern metal fabrication environment that utilizes advanced technologies such as laser cutting, forming, machining, and finishing. You will work from detailed job packets and blueprints to complete a wide variety of welding projects, and over time you will be cross-trained across multiple welding disciplines and fabrication processes. Responsibilities Work as a welder in a precision metal fabrication job shop environment, producing a variety of metal products. Review and interpret job packets and work orders, including bills of materials (BOM), run sizes, and blueprints, to understand all requirements for each job. Gather and prepare all required materials and components before starting each job order. Set up welding equipment and perform welding operations on a wide range of products according to specifications and quality standards. Apply strong skills in at least one welding discipline, such as MIG on carbon, MIG on aluminum, or TIG on aluminum, to complete production work efficiently and accurately. Perform fitting, grinding, and fabrication tasks as needed to prepare and finish welded assemblies. Read and interpret blueprints and measurements, using a tape measure and basic geometry to ensure correct dimensions, angles, and alignment. Operate fabrication and production equipment as required, such as presses, lasers, or other machinery, depending on experience and training. Handle materials safely, including lifting, grabbing, bending, pulling, and positioning parts and assemblies throughout the workday. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all safety procedures and wearing required personal protective equipment. Collaborate with team members and cross-train over time in additional welding disciplines and fabrication processes to expand capabilities. Inspect completed welds and assemblies for accuracy, structural integrity, and conformance to specifications, making adjustments as needed. Essential Skills Proven welding experience with strong competency in at least one of the following: MIG on carbon, MIG on aluminum, or TIG on aluminum. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work orders, including bills of materials and run sizes. Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure for layout and verification of dimensions. Good math and geometry skills, including understanding of axes, angles, and basic measurements used in fabrication. Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting 40+ pounds, grabbing, bending, lifting, pulling, and standing for 8+ hours per day. Basic experience with welding-related tasks such as fitting, grinding, and fabrication. High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment and follow all safety guidelines and procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with MIG welding on structural steel or flux core welding. Experience with fitting and welding, particularly MIG fitting and welding. Press brake operation experience in a fabrication environment. Laser cutting experience or exposure to laser cutting machinery. Experience with production, assembly, or machine operation in a manufacturing setting. Formal welding certifications, apprenticeships, or technical degrees related to welding or metal fabrication are considered a plus. Any additional education or training in welding, fabrication, or machining is beneficial. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a job shop manufacturing environment with two adjacent buildings, and you may work in either facility depending on production needs. The shop uses modern fabrication technologies, including laser cutting, forming, welding, laser tube cutting, machining, and finishing equipment. The environment reflects typical manufacturing conditions: it can become quite warm in the summer and colder in the winter, so you should be comfortable working in varying temperatures. The standard schedule runs Monday through Thursday with two shifts: first shift from 4:00 AM to 2:30 PM and second shift from 2:30 PM to 1:00 AM. Overtime is available, typically every other weekend from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, and during the week with extended hours from 4:00 PM to 4:00 AM as needed. Safety is a priority, and you must wear safety glasses and steel-toe shoes at all times in production areas. The dress code is practical and comfortable, allowing jeans and an appropriate T-shirt suitable for a fabrication shop. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hilliard, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.25 - $32.50/hr.
