PRIMARY FUNCTION
Set-up and operate Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and automatic inert gas (plasma) welding equipment to buttweld tube sections together. Grinds welds smooth; welds wear beads utilizing automatic Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) process and straightens tubes, all in accordance with approved weld procedure specifications.
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT
Automatic and manual Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and automatic inert gas (plasma) welding equipment, weld control, stationary power grinders, belt sanders, special purpose fixtures, stone saws, overhead crane, steel tape, micrometers, ring gauges, straightening presses hand grinders, wire cutters, wire brush, chipping hammer, level and square, od polisher
MATERIALS
Ferrous & non-ferrous materials, bare welding wire, Tungsten electrodes, fastig flux, methl ethyl ketone (MEK)

WORKING PROCEDURE
Receives work instructions from supervisor. Operates automatic TIG and/or electric arc welding equipment to buttweld tubing. Places work into position on worktable, fixture, rotator, positioner, or where welding is to be performed. Uses prescribed methods, procedures, gas flow and wire; visually checks predetermined settings as needed. Manually advances, measures, marks and cut tube to per-order lengths using abrasive cut-off saw. Grinds and polishes weld reinforcements smooth with stationary power grinder and/or hand grinder to close tolerances; uses hydraulic press to straighten tubes as required. Checks I.D. of insulated feed tubes by inserting section of liner tube inside feed tube. Uses automatic TIG process to weld wear beads on feed tubes; grinds wear beads to ring gage dimensions. Welds beads on liner tubes; od polishes tubes as required. Inspects own work in process, but work is subject to in-process and/or final inspection by others, measures, marks, identifies work, records production data, etc., as directed. Responsible for performance of duties and for good housekeeping in immediate work area. Cooperate with and receive assistance from other shop personnel in the performance of work functions.
