Job Title:
Welder / Fabricator Job Description This role involves operating a variety of manual and semi-automatic welding and metalworking equipment to fabricate, assemble, and repair metal structures and components. You will read and interpret blueprints and specifications, perform structural welding, and ensure high-quality welds in a busy weld shop environment. Responsibilities Operate welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene welding, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding. Perform structural welding to fabricate and assemble metal structures and components according to specifications. Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine layout requirements and plan welding and fabrication tasks. Follow established process procedures and work instructions to ensure consistent quality and safety. Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment to cut metal to required dimensions and shapes. Operate brazing and soldering equipment to join or repair metal parts as needed. Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening or bending machines to form and prepare components for welding. Grind and finish welds and metal surfaces to meet quality, dimensional, and aesthetic requirements. Repair worn or damaged parts of metal products by welding on extra layers and restoring them to serviceable condition. Inspect workpieces and welds to verify conformance to specifications and make adjustments as necessary. Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle tools and equipment safely and correctly. Report to work regularly, on time, and prepared to perform all tasks as outlined in the job description or assigned by supervision. Collaborate with team members to coordinate work, meet production schedules, and solve fabrication or fit-up issues. Essential Skills Proficiency in operating manual or semi-automatic welding equipment, including gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene welding, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding. Hands-on experience with MIG welding and structural welding in a production or shop environment. Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine layout requirements and welding sequences. Strong blueprint reading skills and the ability to translate drawings into accurate fabrication and fit-up. Experience with fitting and assembling metal structures prior to welding. Skill in operating flame-cutting equipment for cutting and preparing metal components. Ability to operate brazing and soldering equipment safely and effectively. Proficiency with metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and other straightening or bending machines. Competence in grinding and finishing welds and metal surfaces to meet quality standards. Reliability in maintaining regular attendance, arriving on time, and being prepared to perform assigned tasks. Commitment to following process procedures and safety guidelines in a weld shop environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a weld shop or similar industrial fabrication environment. Familiarity with structural fabrication practices, including layout, fit-up, and alignment of components. Attention to detail and quality, with the ability to identify and correct weld defects or fit-up issues. Strong problem-solving skills for addressing fabrication challenges and ensuring proper assembly. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to meet production goals. Willingness to learn and adapt to different welding processes, equipment, and shop procedures as needed. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Corvallis, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $29.00/hr.
