Job Description

The Welder supports the fabrication of critical components using Flux‑Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) for the nuclear, energy, and heavy industrial sectors within Holtec's Manufacturing Division. This role is responsible for producing high‑quality welds on carbon steel and stainless steel using multiple welding processes in a heavy‑plate manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong hands‑on welding expertise, a commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to work from detailed technical drawings and specifications.

East Pittsburgh, PA (Holtec Manufacturing Division)
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform all work safely in compliance with Holtec safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) Prepare, position, align, and fit materials for welding based on engineering drawings, work orders, and Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) Execute FCAW welding in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, as well as GTAW welding, ensuring high‑quality welds Perform welding operations that meet visual, dimensional, and X‑ray inspection standards Use measuring tools and layout techniques to verify part dimensions and tolerances Layout, tack weld, heat‑bend, clamp, grind, and bolt components to ensure proper alignment prior to final welding Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent distortion or overheating Visually inspect welds for defects and ensure compliance with AWS standards and Holtec quality requirements Set up and operate manual, semi‑automatic, and automatic welding equipment, including FCAW, GTAW, SAW, and plasma arc systems Safely handle materials and components using overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material‑handling equipment Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with housekeeping and safety standards
Requirements:
High School diploma or GED required 2-4 years of welding experience in a heavy plate manufacturing or industrial environment Demonstrated proficiency with Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) on carbon steel and stainless steel Ability to pass Flux‑Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) weld tests in 2G (horizontal groove) and 3G (vertical groove) positions Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical documentation Working knowledge of AWS (American Welding Society) standards and industry best practices Previous certification to ASME Section IX (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and/or

(Structural Steel) / AWS D1.6 (Stainless Steel) preferred Experience in nuclear or high‑spec industrial fabrication environments preferred Multi‑process welding experience (e.g., SMAW
