Structural Steel Job Description We are looking for a skilled Structural Welder / Fabricator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience with structural steel fabrication, welding, fitting, and assembling metal components. This position requires someone who can accurately read and understand fabrication drawings and blueprints and use those drawings to fabricate and assemble finished products. The right candidate should be dependable, safety-minded, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a team. Responsibilities Perform structural welding using MIG, Flux-Core (FCAW), and/or Stick welding processes. Fabricate structural steel and metal components according to drawings, measurements, and job specifications. Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols . Measure, mark, cut, fit, and assemble steel and other metal materials. Lay out and fabricate components accurately from drawings. Operate common fabrication equipment such as saws, grinders, drills, plasma cutters, torches, and other shop equipment. Set up welding machines and select the appropriate welding process and settings for the job. Tack, fit, weld, and finish structural components while maintaining proper dimensions. Inspect completed work to ensure welds, dimensions, fit-up, and overall fabrication meet specifications. Understand basic fabrication procedures and determine the proper sequence for cutting, fitting, welding, and assembly. Work with angles, channels, tubing, beams, plates, and other structural steel materials. Assist with loading, unloading, moving, and positioning materials when necessary. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines. Perform other fabrication and welding duties as assigned. Required Skills & Qualifications Previous experience as a Structural Welder, Welder/Fabricator, or similar position preferred. Ability to read and understand blueprints and fabrication drawings . Ability to understand measurements, dimensions, tolerances, and welding symbols. Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and fit-up. Ability to accurately measure, cut, fit, and assemble materials. Ability to produce quality welds with proper penetration and appearance. Knowledge of basic welding and fabrication equipment. Ability to use tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, and other measuring tools. Strong attention to detail. Ability to safely lift and move heavy materials. Reliable transportation and dependable attendance. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Fabrication Experience Applicants should understand the basic fabrication process from drawing to finished product , including: Reading and understanding the shop drawing. Identifying required materials, dimensions, and specifications. Measuring and laying out material. Cutting material to the required dimensions. Fitting and positioning components according to the drawing. Tack welding and checking measurements. Making necessary adjustments before final welding. Completing structural welds according to specifications. Grinding, cleaning, and finishing welds when required. Inspecting the completed assembly for accuracy and quality. What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and understands that accuracy matters from the first measurement to the final weld . The ideal candidate can look at a drawing, understand how the pieces should be fabricated and assembled, and turn that drawing into a quality finished product. Strong fabrication and blueprint-reading skills are highly valued. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions. Ability to lift and move heavy materials with assistance when necessary. Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment. Ability to work around welding fumes, noise, heat, and industrial equipment while using required PPE. Preferred Qualifications Structural steel welding experience. Previous fabrication shop experience. Experience fabricating from detailed shop drawings. Experience with heavy structural steel. Welding certifications are a plus. Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material-handling equipment is a plus.
