Welder Job Description This role involves setting up, operating, and tending welding, soldering, and brazing machines to fuse metal components with precision and consistency. You will oversee welding operations, ensure work meets specifications, and guide others in proper welding techniques and equipment use. Responsibilities Supervise the operation of manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments according to specifications. Oversee fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials. Review workpieces for defects and verify that finished products conform to technical specifications and quality standards. Instruct staff on required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques. Determine appropriate welding equipment, processes, and methods for each project based on material type and job requirements. Develop templates and models for welding projects using mathematical calculations derived from blueprints and technical drawings. Estimate the quantity of materials needed for production and manufacturing and maintain adequate stock levels. Use design techniques, tools, and principles to interpret and apply precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Ensure welding machines, tools, and related equipment are used, maintained, and repaired properly to support safe and efficient operations. Manage time and workflow effectively to complete projects within established schedules. Essential Skills Strong verbal communication skills and keen attention to detail. Ability to work independently and manage one's time effectively. Strong leadership and mentoring skills to provide support and constructive performance feedback. Extensive knowledge of welding processes, including gas metal arc, plasma arc, and resistance welding. Proficiency in arc welding and stick welding techniques. Strong knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance. Strong understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles used in producing precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. High school diploma or GED required. 10+ years of welding experience required. Work Environment This position follows a consistent schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, providing a four-day workweek in a production-oriented setting. You will work with manual and semi-automatic welding equipment, including arc and stick welding tools, as well as processes such as gas metal arc, plasma arc, and resistance welding. The environment involves working around welding machines, tools, and materials, with an emphasis on safe operation, equipment maintenance, and adherence to technical specifications and blueprints. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vonore, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
