Key Responsibilities / Daily Tasks Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, work orders, and specifications to determine job requirements and tolerances. Lay out, measure, mark, cut, and shape metal components using tools such as tape measures, squares, levels, shears, plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, band saws, and press brakes. Position, align, and fit fabricated, cast, or forged parts together using clamps, bolts, tack welds, and precision measuring instruments while maintaining tight tolerances. Select and set up appropriate welding equipment (MIG/GMAW, TIG/GTAW, Stick/SMAW, Flux Core/FCAW) and welding parameters based on material type (mild steel, stainless, aluminum, etc.) and joint requirements. Perform welding in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) on structural, sheet metal, and pipe components. Tack-weld, bolt, rivet, or otherwise assemble parts into final products or sub-assemblies. Grind, clean, and finish welds to remove slag, spatter, and imperfections; prepare surfaces for painting or further assembly. Inspect completed welds and fabrications for quality, strength, dimensional accuracy, and conformance to codes and specifications; perform rework as needed. Operate and maintain fabrication shop equipment (ironworkers, drills, grinders, rollers, punches, shears, etc.). Perform routine maintenance on welding machines, torches, and hand/power tools; troubleshoot minor equipment issues. Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, ventilation, fire prevention, and lock-out/tag-out procedures. Maintain a clean and organized work area; clean tools, equipment, and the shop floor at the end of each shift. Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and quality control to meet production schedules and project deadlines. Occasionally assist with material handling, forklift operation, rigging, or loading/unloading of fabricated items. Optional Additions (Depending on the Company/Industry) Fabricate or repair custom items such as brackets, guards, frames, railings, truck beds, trailers, tanks, or structural steel components. Perform basic layout or rough sketching for one-off jobs. Conduct pressure or non-destructive testing on welds when required. Work with a variety of metals and alloys (carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum).

$22.00 - $24.00 per hour
