The Welder is responsible for completing production work safely and responsibly.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs complex and precision welding techniques. Designs, fabricates, joins and/or repairs space age metals, scientific and research components using oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, MIG and TIG welding techniques. Welds parts and sub-assemblies to specifications and/or prints. Welds in controlled atmospheres, plasma welds and cuts. Welds high vacuum and high pressure systems. Heat treats and thermal sprays equipment, fixtures and various types of metal objects and structures. Operates drill presses, power saws, grinders, positioners and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools. May also perform minor operations on metal lathes and milling machines. Analyzes plans, drawings, work samples, specifications and work orders to determine work requirements, sequence of welding assignments, and personnel needs. Other duties, as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma and/or equivalent. Four years of welding experience; or, Completion of an accredited four-year welder's training program; or, Completion of an accredited two-year welder's training program and two years of welding experience; or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Skill in the fabrication, joining and repair of a variety of metal objects, equipment, fixtures and structures. Knowledge of applicable codes. Knowledge of welding techniques (oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, MIG, TIG, controlled atmosphere, and plasma cutting), tools and equipment. Knowledge of non-destructive inspection techniques. Skill in heat treating and thermal spraying.
