6:00 AM - 2:45 PM (45-minute lunch) 2nd
Shift:
3:00 PM - 11:00 PM (30-minute paid lunch)
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Structural Welder J4 to join our team in Norfolk, VA. The ideal candidate will have strong structural welding experience and be proficient in multiple welding processes, including SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW . The successful candidate should be comfortable working with various base metals and welding materials while maintaining high-quality welds that meet inspection and NDT requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform structural welding on various types of base metals, including HY-80 and HY-100 steel . Perform welding using SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW processes. Work with and weld various materials, including steel, aluminum, copper-nickel, and stainless steel . Select and use appropriate wire and shielding gas combinations . Produce high-quality welds that meet NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) requirements. Read and properly use weld gauges to verify weld quality and dimensions. Safely and effectively operate required hand tools . Follow established welding procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards. Follow Standard Item 1689 requirements and 5S workplace guidelines . Work under general supervision and follow direction when required. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience as a structural welder or similar welding position. Strong knowledge of structural welding techniques and procedures. Proficiency with SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes. Experience welding HY-80 and/or HY-100 is highly preferred. Ability to work with multiple base metals, including steel, aluminum, copper-nickel, and stainless steel. Ability to read and use weld gauges. Ability to use common hand tools safely and effectively. Ability to produce welds that meet applicable inspection/NDT requirements. Knowledge of Standard Item 1689 and 5S principles . Ability to obtain required DBIDS and NAVSEA badges . Ability to follow safety procedures and work effectively under supervision.
Physical & Work Requirements:
Ability to work in a shipyard/industrial environment. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, and work in various positions for extended periods. Ability to safely handle welding equipment, tools, and materials. Must be able to follow all applicable safety and quality requirements.
Pay:
$27.00 - $29.00 per hour Application Question(s): How many years of structural welding experience do you have, and which welding processes are you currently proficient in (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW)? Do you have hands-on experience welding HY-80 and/or HY-100 steel?
