This hands-on role is responsible for welding light-gauge tubular components in a cell-based production setting. Essential Responsibilities Perform MIG Welding Operations:
Safely set up, operate, and maintain MIG welding equipment to fabricate steel tube frames and components in accordance with blueprints and specifications. Weld in a
Production Cell Environment:
Complete welding tasks in a lean manufacturing cell setup, working collaboratively with team members to maximize efficiency and throughput.
Material Handling:
Move raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished parts between workstations using carts, pallet jacks, and other powered/manual material handling equipment.
Weld Quality Inspection:
Conduct thorough quality checks on completed weldments, including visual inspections and measurements, to ensure compliance with internal standards and customer requirements.
Productivity Goals:
Achieve or exceed established production targets and cycle times while minimizing waste and rework.
Equipment Maintenance:
Perform basic preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on welding machines and related tools to ensure proper operation and minimize downtime.
Work Documentation:
Accurately complete job travelers, quality checklists, and inventory movement tickets in alignment with departmental procedures.
Cross-Training & Team Support:
Assist with cross-functional tasks such as part preparation, assembly, or packaging as needed. Participate in team meetings, continuous improvement initiatives, and training sessions. Maintain a
Clean and Safe Work Environment:
Follow safety protocols at all times, maintain a clean work area, and report any hazards or equipment issues promptly.
Qualifications and Requirements Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of full-time MIG welding experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Certifications:
Welding certification (e.g., AWS D1.1 or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in MIG welding techniques, including setup, adjustment, and operation of welding machines. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and production documents. Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and standard work procedures is a plus.
Mathematical Skills:
Strong ability to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and use measuring tools such as calipers and tape measures.
Soft Skills:
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Effective communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment. Self-motivated with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly throughout the shift. Capable of wearing required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), including welding helmet, gloves, and safety glasses. Tolerance for working in a production environment with exposure to welding fumes, noise, and varying temperatures.
