Job Description

Director of Communications Franklin, Indiana | Full-Time | Exempt (12-Month) Franklin College invites applications for the position of Director of Communications. Reporting to the President, the director leads the College's messaging, media relations and institutional storytelling. This role is instrumental in elevating the College's visibility, supporting strategic priorities, and strengthening engagement with both internal and external audiences. The Director of Communications oversees the daily operations of the Communications Office and is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy that reflects the mission and values of Franklin College. This individual serves as the College's primary media contact, managing press relations, coordinating interviews, and producing news releases and feature stories that highlight campus achievements. The role also includes coordination of website content, including homepage news and special initiative pages, as well as coordinating written content for institutional micro-sites such as fundraising campaigns and other special projects. The Director collaborates with departments across campus to support messaging and communication needs, supervises office staff, manages the departmental budget, and provides guidance on communications strategy to senior leadership. In addition, this position supervises student staff, including participants in the Pulliam Fellows program, an experiential learning opportunity for students interested in communications-related careers. The Director also serves on campus committees and plays a key role in coordinating institutional crisis communications in partnership with the President and external counsel. Qualified candidates will hold a bachelor's degree in communications with at least 5 years of professional-level experience in a corporate or higher education role. Additional public relations experience is deemed helpful. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills, strong organizational and project management abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
