Oversees press releases and communications with media; works with advertising and marketing staff to target advertising campaigns; manages internal communications such as newsletters or financial reports. May draft speeches or arrange interviews for company executives.
The Town of Wareham's Human Resources Department is accepting applications, on behalf of the Wareham Police Department, for the position of full-time (4 and 2 schedule) Communications Officer. The salary and a very generous benefits package, which includes health insurance (premiums paid at 68%), dental insurance (premiums paid at 75%), paid time off, shift differentials, stipends and other benefits, are pursuant to the current collective bargaining agreement. Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. APCO PST1, NexGen and EMD Certified (preferred).
Responsibilities:
Include but are not limited to: responsible for providing communications between the public and police, fire, and EMS in Wareham including calls for emergency assistance, calls from citizens giving or requesting information, and calls from public safety agencies to the citizens; answers 911 emergency calls; provides Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) assistance, non-emergency calls, and dispatches public safety field personnel; maintains detailed police logs; and performs other tasks as assigned. Applicants must be able to work nights, weekends and/or holidays.
Qualifications:
Thorough familiarity and comfort with basic computer skills and knowledge. Applicants must be organized, maintain the ability to handle multiple tasks, work with a high degree of confidentiality, and work under precise deadlines. Must have the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with other municipal staff and the general public. Must also be capable of maintaining, as a condition of continued employment, First Responder First Aid, CPR, Suicide Prevention, EMD, and all other training required by the Wareham Police Department. Subject to full background check, pre-employment physical, drug test and psychological testing.
