Job Description

Overview The Director of Donor Relations and Development leads the Community Foundation of East Mississippi's resource development, donor engagement, and philanthropic growth strategies. Working closely with the President & CEO, this role designs and implements comprehensive development initiatives that strengthen relationships with donors, fund holders, professional advisors, and community partners across CFEM's five-county service area. This position oversees donor services, fundraising strategies, fund development, gift recognition, and relationship management while advancing a strong culture of philanthropy. The Director plays a critical leadership role in expanding CFEM's public profile, increasing charitable assets, and ensuring exceptional donor experiences. Essential Functions Donor Relations & Development Strategy Design and implement a comprehensive donor relations and development strategy aligned with CFEM's strategic goals for growth and sustainability. Manage a portfolio of existing and prospective fund holders, focusing on cultivation, stewardship, and long-term relationship building. Assist donors and fund holders in achieving charitable giving goals, including contributions of cash, stock, planned gifts, and other assets. Educate donors and professional advisors on charitable giving options, endowment building, and philanthropic tools available through CFEM. Track donor engagement activities, prospective gifts, and development metrics using C-Suites and other internal systems. Ensure timely, accurate, and professional responses to donor inquiries and request Fund Development & Asset Growth Lead strategies related to major gifts, planned giving, endowment growth, and fundraising campaigns. Collaborate with the President & CEO and Director of Operations to advance CFEM's asset development goals and donor services. Support the creation of new funds and oversee processes related to fund establishment, amendments, and ongoing stewardship. Monitor donor satisfaction through surveys, feedback, and engagement reviews, and recommend improvements as needed. Outreach, Marketing & Community Engagement Develop and direct donor-focused events, educational programs, and engagement opportunities highlighting community needs and philanthropic impact. Expand outreach and donor relationships throughout East Mississippi, with a specific focus on growth in underserved or emerging areas. Work with CFEM's marketing firm to develop donor communications, outreach strategies, and educational materials. Represent CFEM at community events, professional associations, and philanthropic gatherings to increase visibility and engagement. Leadership, Collaboration & Governance Support Serve as staff liaison to the Development Committee and provide regular updates and reports. Work collaboratively with CFEM staff to align development goals with organizational priorities and community impact initiatives. Ensure C-Suites is kept current with all donor relations, engagement activities, and development reporting. Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical conduct in all donor interactions. Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor's degree required; degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, marketing, or related field preferred. Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, donor relations, development, or philanthropic services. Experience working with major donors, fund holders, or professional advisors preferred. Communication & Relationship Skills Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and donor presentations. Ability to communicate complex philanthropic concepts clearly and effectively. Strategic & Organizational Skills Ability to develop and execute long-term development strategies. Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently while collaborating across teams. Computer & Technical Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and CRM/database systems. Experience with donor databases preferred; ability to quickly learn and effectively use C-Suites required.

Up to $46,000.00 per year
