JOB SUMMARY:
The Director/Senior Director of Brand, Marketing & Communications serves as the chief architect and steward of the Anne Carlsen brand- ensuring that every message, story, and experience reflects the organization's mission to make the world a more inclusive place where independence is a gift to all. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, this position leads an integrated strategy that unites brand, marketing, communications, digital engagement, executive messaging, internal alignment, and storytelling into one cohesive vision. This leader serves as a strategic communications advisor to the CEO, helping translate organizational priorities into clear, consistent, and compelling messages for employees, families, donors, policymakers, partners, referral sources, and the broader public. While events are housed within the Foundation/Fundraising department, this position provides brand, messaging, and experience-design leadership through a dotted-line relationship to ensure Anne Carlsen events consistently reflect the organization's identity, mission, and strategic priorities. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for a strategic builder- someone who can operate at both the executive and tactical levels while developing a focused, high-impact brand, marketing, and communications function over time.
QUALIFICATIONS
(minimum requirements) Education and/or years' experience required: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, Nonprofit Leadership, or related field. 7+ years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, public relations, brand management, executive communications, or related fields, with at least 5 years in senior leadership or enterprise-level responsibility. Proven success leading multi-channel brand and communication strategies for a mission-driven organization. Demonstrated experience advising senior executives and translating complex organizational priorities into clear, compelling communication. Experience leading communication strategy during organizational change, growth, crisis, public visibility, or complex stakeholder environments. Exceptional writing, speaking, editing, storytelling, and relationship-building skills. Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire teams, influence stakeholders, and advise executive leadership. Demonstrated ability to manage complex communications, sensitive issues, public visibility, and cross-functional initiatives. Ability to operate strategically while also being willing and able to execute in a lean, hands-on environment.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Master's degree is preferred 10+ years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, public relations, brand management, executive communications, or related fields. Experience in healthcare, human services, education, philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, public policy, or advocacy preferred.
