Journey's End Refugee Services, Inc. is a refugee resettlement and immigration services provider for the Western New York region. The organization works to assist newly arriving refugees in finding gainful employment and avoiding dependency on social services. Job Description The Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for building and strengthening community relationships through volunteer engagement, public education, outreach, and special events. This position plays a key role in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers while promoting the mission and impact of Journey's End Refugee Services throughout the Western New York community. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Advancement team to support community awareness efforts, donor engagement, storytelling, and agency events. The ideal candidate is outgoing, organized, mission-driven, and passionate about creating meaningful volunteer experiences that inspire long-term community involvement and support. Essential Responsibilities Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement Coordinate volunteer placements across agency programs and initiatives Recruit, onboard, train, and support individual and group volunteers Maintain volunteer communications, scheduling, records, and tracking systems Ensure volunteers have positive, meaningful, and mission-centered experiences Develop strategies to strengthen volunteer retention and engagement Cultivate volunteers into long-term supporters and donors through relationship-building and stewardship Community Outreach & Education Represent Journey's End Refugee Services at community events, volunteer fairs, educational programs, and outreach opportunities Conduct educational presentations for schools, universities, faith communities, businesses, and civic organizations Promote awareness of Journey's End Refugee Services programs Build and maintain relationships with community partners and organizations to support advancement efforts Advancement & Storytelling Support Collaborate with the Advancement team to gather and share volunteer stories, client success stories, and community impact highlights Assist with donor engagement and stewardship activities Contribute content and ideas for newsletters, social media, fundraising campaigns, and public communications Event Support Assist with planning, coordinating, and staffing agency events, volunteer projects, educational programs, and fundraising activities Support community engagement initiatives that strengthen public awareness and participation in the mission of Journey's End Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Education, or a related field preferred 3-5 years of experience working with volunteers, community outreach, nonprofit programs, or public engagement preferred Strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and community partners Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities Commitment to the mission and values of Journey's End Refugee Services Preferred Skills Experience coordinating volunteers or community service programs Strong writing and storytelling abilities Experience with presentations, outreach, and event coordination Familiarity with social media and community engagement strategies Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment Work Environment This position requires regular community engagement and includes evening and weekend hours for presentations, volunteer activities, and special events. A flexible schedule is required. Local travel throughout Western New York may also be required.
