Job Description

Job Summary The Community Educator advances DVPI's mission by delivering high-quality prevention education, community outreach, and capacity-building initiatives focused on domestic violence, teen dating violence, and healthy relationships. This role designs and facilitates educational programming, strengthens partnerships with schools and community organizations, and supports coordinated efforts to prevent violence before it occurs. The Community Educator promotes a trauma-informed, inclusive, and empowerment-based approach in all interactions, ensuring that community members receive accurate information, supportive resources, and meaningful opportunities to build safer, healthier relationships. Essential Functions Curriculum Development & Facilitation Design and deliver educational presentations on domestic violence, teen dating violence, healthy relationships, consent, and boundaries to youth and adults. Tailor content to diverse audiences and ensure materials reflect trauma-informed and evidence-based practices. Organize and facilitate workshops for parents, caregivers, and community groups on recognizing signs of abuse and supporting survivors. Community Outreach
  • Develop and distribute informational materials about DVPI services and community resources at events, schools, and public gatherings.
  • Collaborate with schools, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and other community organizations to strengthen referral pathways and coordinated support. Training and Capacity Building
  • Provide training sessions for educators, service providers, social workers, and community leaders on identifying and responding to domestic violence.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers assisting with educational and outreach activities; promote skill development and role clarity. Program Evaluation
  • Implement pre- and post-presentation assessments to measure knowledge gain and participant feedback.
  • Utilize evaluation findings to refine curriculum and enhance program quality.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of activities, attendance, and outcomes in compliance with DVPI and funder requirements.
  • Prepare reports for internal stakeholders and support strategic planning efforts. Other Functions
  • Represent DVPI at community and collaborative meetings; advocate on behalf of survivors and promote violence-prevention efforts.
  • Assist with awareness campaigns and special initiatives such as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.
  • Participate in required in-service training and professional development activities.
  • Support cross-department collaboration and ensure alignment of messaging and education efforts.

  • Minimum 1-3 years' experience in prevention education, community outreach, advocacy, or related human services field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field; equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Behavioral Competencies

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed for events and trainings.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and proof of automobile insurance in compliance with Ohio's Financial Responsibility Act. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed primarily in an indoor environment, with occasional outdoor events at fairs and festivals. The position may involve risks or discomforts associated with both office and outdoor event settings. Employees are expected to follow safe workplace practices, take precautions to prevent trips and falls, and comply with applicable fire and other safety regulations.
  • Performing the daily duties of this job requires seeing, hearing, reading, writing, and verbally communicating in English; operating a computer and standard office equipment; climbing stairs, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching; occasional climbing, squatting, pushing, pulling, lifting objects up to 25 pounds and carrying them distances of up to 100 ft.
Pay:
$19.00 - $20.00 per hour
