Job Description

The Opportunity Bishop McCort Catholic Academy seeks a mission-driven Major Gift Officer to lead and grow its principal and major gifts program. This is a unique opportunity to join a thriving institution at a pivotal moment as it expands its educational programs and deepens its impact in the Johnstown community. The Major Gift Officer will build meaningful, lasting relationships with donors who share a passion for Catholic education, school choice, securing transformational gifts that fund scholarships, endowments, capital improvements, and strategic initiatives. Primary Responsibilities Donor Cultivation & Stewardship Manage a dynamic portfolio of 100-150 major gift prospects and donors capable of making gifts of $25,000 or more. Develop and execute individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for each assigned donor. Conduct discovery visits with prospective donors to assess philanthropic interests and connection to the Academy's mission. Build authentic, long-term relationships through frequent regular personal visits, calls, handwritten notes, and meaningful touchpoints. Respond promptly and thoughtfully to donor inquiries, ensuring an exceptional donor experience at every stage. Solicitation & Gift Closure Lead and close major gift solicitations of $25,000 and above, EITC gifts, scholarship endowments, and capital campaign gifts. Prepare compelling, customized proposals, gift agreements, and impact reports that align donor interests with institutional priorities. Collaborate with leadership to develop ask strategies and determine the right people, timing, and amounts for each solicitation. Actively manage the gift pipeline to maintain consistent progress from identification through closure. Support planned giving conversations and connect donors to legacy giving opportunities. Alumni & Community Engagement Identify and engage alumni, parents, parishioners, and community leaders with capacity and affinity for major philanthropic support. Collaborate with development partners to incorporate existing fundraising programs (EITC, Corporate Sponsorship, Named Scholarship Program) into major giving advancement priorities. Represent Bishop McCort at cultivation events, community gatherings, and diocesan functions to expand the donor pipeline. Recruit and support volunteers and advisory board members who can open doors to prospective major donors. Reporting & Collaboration Maintain timely and accurate donor records, contact reports, and gift pipeline data in the development database (Bloomerang). Provide regular progress reports on portfolio performance, including visits completed, proposals submitted, and gifts closed. Collaborate with the advancement team on annual fund appeals, events, and donor communications. Work closely with the Principal and Development Committee to align major gift priorities with the Academy's strategic plan. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in a related field (nonprofit management, communications, business, or equivalent experience). Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated success in major gift fundraising, preferably in an educational or faith-based environment. Proven track record of personally delivering excellent customer service and business development. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with a diverse community of donors. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to craft persuasive proposals and present effectively to individuals and small groups. Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education; active faith life strongly preferred. Self-motivated, goal-oriented professional with excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to travel locally and regionally to meet with donors; valid driver's license required. Proficiency with CRM/donor database software and Microsoft Office Suite. Willingness to obtain CFRE certification. This position is a full-time, exempt role.
Pay:
$45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
