Communications Assistant Manager Northern Arizona University Special Information This position is a hybrid position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at both an NAU site, campus, or facility and at a non-centralized site with or without accommodation. About the Department/College Aligned with NAU's mission to develop solutions to challenges and drive innovation in a supportive, inclusive, and diverse environment, the College of Nursing seeks to build on our longstanding strengths in preparing skilled, resilient, and culturally responsive nurses for the modern nursing profession. The Northern Arizona University College of Nursing continues to build a world-class team of curious, creative, scholarly, and responsive faculty to positively impact the nursing profession in Arizona and beyond. Nursing offers the undergraduate program at locations around the state of Arizona including Flagstaff, Phoenix (North Valley), Tucson, and Yuma. Some degree programs are also offered online. The College of Nursing is growing in order to meet the demand for nurses around the state, especially in rural and underserved areas. About the Position The College of Nursing (CON) at Northern Arizona University is seeking a strategic communications professional to serve as the Communications Assistant Manager for the college. This position will be responsible for planning and executing internal and external marketing and communications strategies to help the College of Nursing to advance their vision and strategic goals. As the Communications Assistant Manager for the college, they will be work with college leadership on communication efforts in a highly interactive and collaborative team environment. This position will partner with campus units including NAU Communications, Strategic Enrollment and Marketing, and Academic Affairs Marketing to ensure alignment with university-wide priorities and brand standards. Responsibilities Include Content Creation and Editor - 60% Lead the development of collateral creation. Create internal and external messages, articles, announcements, newsletters, marketing materials, brochures, graphics, invitations, publications, white papers, talking points and scripts in compliance with NAU and CON brand guidelines and utilize evidence-based research to guide designs for the College of Nursing and CON Dean. Apply subject matter expertise within the communications team, as to audience and segments thereof, processes, technologies, automation, and communication performance analytics. CON website liaison, coordinate to maintain and regularly update the CON website. Manage the CON and Dean social media accounts. Direct and oversee marketing campaigns as needed by CON degree program areas to prominently position the College and achieve strategic goals, including the promotion of new degrees, new partnerships, new grants, and new CE offerings. Support the planning and execution of CON events. Manage NAU Directory for CON (subviews, maintaining faculty and staff displayed in catalog website plugins). Develop branded college giveaways (SWAG), identify strategy for use and items purchased for CON. Manage NAU Events Calendar listings for CON, ensure events are pulled through to CHHS website. Create, design, and execute branded decor, vinyl wraps, and signage for CON buildings. Create and distribute digital and print pieces for CON fundraising outreach including for NAU Giving Day and college holiday card to donors in collaboration with CON Development Director. Create donor proposals, decks, reports, and presentations for CON Development Director. Outreach and Brand Management - 20% Create tailored campaigns with CON Program Directors throughout the state of Arizona including Yuma, Tucson, North Valley, Flagstaff and online. Arrange media interviews, prepare speaking points, conduct media trainings for CON faculty, staff, and students. Build outreach plans for rural reach (targeted ad campaigns, marketing within partnership communities). Create collateral for events and event promotion. Develop communications strategies and ensure stakeholders and constituents have access to accurate information for CON. In coordination with NAU Communications, build and maintain relationships with local media, university and community leaders and other key stakeholders. Incorporates changes to existing communications policies and makes sure information reaches all relevant stakeholders. Provide event support by promoting, attending and reporting on events put on by CON. Administration - 10% Manage third party vendors, freelancers, student interns and consultants as needed. Organize, plan and direct photo and video shoots for CON. Serve as the primary contact person for CON media outreach. Hire, supervise, coach, mentor, and motivate student worker for CON. Develop communications collateral that advances college priorities, including grant reports, annual impact reports, and other high-impact deliverables. Create PPTs for College Wide Events, Dean, funders, partnerships, etc. Manage CON Sharepoint site. Event and Recruitment Support - 5% Assist in execution of SEM Gold Tour and Discover NAU event experiences for CON when needed. Support CON peer mentors to engage current students in the recruitment of potential students. Provide support during CON Welcome Week/Lumberjack Welcome when needed. Other - 5% Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in communications or related field. 1 years of relevant experience. •A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics, Wordpress, and Social Media. Strong writing and media relation skills. Experience as a brand manager, particularly in the field of public higher education. Experience effectively implementing initiatives through a variety of marketing channels, including online advertising, email campaigns, content marketing, social media marketing, word of mouth, events, and/or earned media. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge Knowledge of communications tools and processes. Basic knowledge of process/program management practices and principles. Knowledge of best practices for communications in higher education. Understands and applies knowledge of appropriate handling of communications information. Brand management knowledge and experience. Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Planning, organizing, coordinating, and facilitating skills. Customer service skills. Abilities Analyzes complex situations and anticipates issues. Demonstrates strong problem solving, organizational, and analytical capabilities. Manages and maintains relationships. Balances competing priorities. Communicates effectively. Compensation Salary range begins at $58,882.00. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience. Pre-Employment Check Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
