For more information on NSMA, please visit the website at www.nvdoctors.org Major Responsibilities The Policy Director (PD) is a key position of NSMA with regards to interfacing with local, state and federal legislators as well as keeping track of legislation that affects how Nevada physicians care for patients. The PD will also be asked to reach out to other Nevada physician and health care organizations to help coordinate legislative efforts. Other key duties advocacy, marketing, communications (including social media messaging), and community outreach. The position works with the NSMA's leadership, including the Council and NSMA President to ensure the success of the organization. The PD will be interviewed by the NSMA president and Executive Council. Approval for the position would be by a vote of the NSMA Executive Council.
NSMA Staff/Operations:
The PD position supports the needs of the NSMA Executive Committee, Council (Board of Directors), standing Commissions, the NSMA House of Delegates through ensuring a successful annual meeting of the House of Delegates and resolution process and ad hoc committees. The PD should work with the NSMA members and NSMA Executive Director to help prepare resolutions to be heard at the NSMA annual meeting. Attendance at the HOD meeting is critical for the PD to understand the positions of NSMA. The PD will also staff meetings of the Government Affairs Commission and Nevada MedPAC and work in conjunction with the NSMA lobbying team.
Spokesperson:
The Policy Director will often represent and speak for NSMA and, in collaboration with the Council and other physician leadership, represent the NSMA in the media and public settings. The Policy Director should look to promote the profile of the Association with community partners and public bodies.
Advocacy:
The PD organizes and directs the implementation of NSMA Federal and State Legislative and other governmental priorities by working with the contract lobby team and Legislative core group to identify and lobby key issues of important to the Association. The PD engages in lobbying and advocacy work at the state level, including the Nevada legislature, Governor and Administrative branch and regulatory bodies. When appropriate, the ED, working with the contract lobby team, testifies or organizes testimony, draft position statements, letters, and other materials necessary to ensure effective articulation of the Association's position. The PD also negotiates on behalf of the NSMA with regular communication to the Association's leadership. The PD staffs the meetings of the Political Action Committee, schedules candidate interviews and works with the PAC to complete the endorsement and contribution process. The PD is also NSMA's representative on federal matters working with the Government Affairs Commission, the American Medical Association and other stakeholders. The position requires working cooperatively with other relevant stakeholders, including health professional associations, health care facility representatives, patient advocacy organizations and health-related coalitions to build consensus and further the Association's agenda. The position also serves as the principle liaison for NSMA with State legislators and staff, State Executive branch officials, the Nevada Congressional delegation and staff and counterparts in other non-governmental organizations. The PD is responsible for other duties as assigned by the Council, NSMA President and NSMA Executive Director. Qualifications The ideal candidate should share the mission of the NSMA to promote high quality healthcare in Nevada and advocate for physicians and patients.
