Job Description

Summary:
The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for fostering meaningful relationships between Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency and the communities we serve. This role focuses on creating welcoming, inclusive, and informed experiences for clients, volunteers, and community members. The ideal candidate is people-centered, outgoing, compassionate, and committed to building strong community connections through direct engagement, outreach activities, and volunteer support.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Welcoming Environment Create a positive and respectful atmosphere for clients, volunteers, and visitors at MCCAA events, including TEFAP food distributions. Volunteer Engagement Support volunteers from onboarding through service by providing guidance, encouragement, and a meaningful volunteer experience. Community Outreach Attend outreach events (e.g., fairs, community meetings, tabling events) to share information about MCCAA services and promote community involvement. Relationship Building Develop and strengthen relationships with local partners, stakeholders, and community members to increase program awareness and engagement. Volunteer Recognition Assist in volunteer appreciation efforts, including small recognition initiatives and storytelling to highlight volunteer impact. Data Tracking Maintain accurate records of volunteer interactions, outreach activities, and events for internal documentation and follow-up. Team Collaboration Work closely with agency staff to coordinate events, share information, and ensure consistency across programs and initiatives.
Education & Experience Qualifications:
Education:
Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field is preferred
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience in the Human Services field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for community-based work. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends to support events and food distributions. Experience working with diverse populations and in nonprofit or social service settings is a plus.
