This role leads the Prevention Resource Center's Media and Training Cores, disseminating prevention messaging across a wide variety of media outlets and coordinating trainings that build prevention skills among regional stakeholders, prevention professionals, and community partners across the Permian Basin.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Full-time role at 40 flexible hours per week, with some evenings and weekends required. Local travel required; must provide reliable transportation. Serve as one of the agency's designated Media Representatives. Develop prevention messaging based on the SAMHSA Focus on Prevention toolkit and promote it through radio or television PSAs, media interviews, billboards, bus boards, editorials, and social media. Maintain the organization's Facebook and Instagram accounts, posting original agency content, statewide media campaign messaging, and relevant content from partner organizations. Support and promote consistent statewide messaging through participation in the Statewide Media Campaign, including registering for and maintaining access to the campaign SharePoint site. Coordinate and host regional trainings focused on prevention and behavioral health promotion, including identifying training needs, securing locations, managing logistics, and distributing training materials. Work directly with the state-funded training entity to identify training needs and regularly promote trainings to regional stakeholders and prevention providers. Distribute monthly updates to regional prevention providers about available prevention and behavioral health promotion trainings. Participate in quarterly calls to assess the impact of media awareness activities. Attend the mandatory Annual Prevention Provider Meeting in Austin, TX (one work week each June). Complete all required prevention trainings and annual continuing education, including: PRC Competency Training, 15-Hour Prevention Skills Training, SAPST (after 12 months), CPR and First Aid, Tobacco Law Training, Suicide Prevention Training, and Mental Health First Aid. Document activities and submit monthly performance reports in a timely manner. Work toward a Prevention Specialist designation within 20 months of hire. Assist with other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
WHAT IS REQUIRED
High School Diploma required, with a minimum of 2 years of communications, public relations, or media experience. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and social media platforms. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Professionalism, reliability, and integrity are essential. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work occasional evenings, weekends, and outdoor events. Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and auto insurance required. (Mileage reimbursed at the rate allowed by State programs.) Must pass background check and drug test.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, or a media-related field. Experience working in prevention and/or knowledge of substance abuse prevention domains. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong understanding of social media engagement and analytics. Reliability and self-motivation to plan, coordinate, and host trainings. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and meet reporting deadlines. Strong working knowledge of community resources and contacts. Neat, professional appearance.
