Job Description

Job description: We are expanding and currently seeking a Strategic Communications Manager for our office in Buckhannon, WV. Preference is given to candidates with experience in energy, policy, and community outreach or engagement. Orion Strategies is a strategic communications firm serving national, state, and regional clients in various industries through public relations, governmental affairs, research and polling, stakeholder relations, grassroots marketing, community outreach, coalition building, and creative services. The individual hired for this position will be expected to report in person to our office location in Buckhannon, WV. This position will require travel (including some overnight), a valid driver's license and the ability to operate a vehicle to support the completion of job responsibilities. Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Day-to-day management of projects, including development of briefing materials for clients and reporting documents. Executing various efforts within stakeholder relations, community outreach and coalition building functions Writing and editing media communications, including news releases, background materials, bios, media pitches, op-eds, outreach letters, etc. Local media relations on behalf of clients Speaking before community organizations Organizing public information sessions including invitations, materials and logistics Developing communication projects, including production of materials, coordination with other team members, and securing requisite approvals Coordinating inbound and outbound information requests to and from field communication, traditional media /social media, and other vendors on projects Regularly engaging in one-on-one outreach with stakeholders and community officials—through both phone calls and in-person meetings—to discuss client projects and related matters Monitoring and reporting of media and social media on behalf of clients The ideal candidate will: Have experience or education in public relations, communications or other related fields Have a background in energy projects and/or policy development Have strong writing and oral communication abilities Have strong communications skills and be comfortable utilizing both phone and technology platforms to timely correspond with clients, co-workers and project stakeholders. Have sound organization and time management skills Possess a strong knowledge of and the ability to use
