Job Description

The Marketing & Communications Specialist plays a vital role in shaping the public image and digital presence of the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce. This position focuses on creating engaging, member-centered content across platforms, supporting business programming and events, and advancing the Chamber's goals to promote, build, and advocate for the business community. The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller, tech-savvy, and highly organized with a passion for supporting local businesses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Creation & Design Write, design, and produce creative, on-brand content for social media, e-newsletters, flyers, digital ads, Chamber website, and print materials. Capture and edit short-form videos for social media that spotlight Chamber members, events, or key initiatives. Develop marketing campaigns and themes for Chamber programs, member recognition, and events. Create marketing toolkits and materials for members participating in sponsorships, events, or Chamber programs. Digital Communication Manage the Chamber's weekly email communications (eBlasts). Maintain and regularly update content on the Chamber website. Schedule, post, and respond to comments/messages on social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube). Optimize online visibility through basic SEO practices and analytics tracking. Event Marketing & Support Promote Chamber events (Business After Hours, Ladies Night Out, Independence Day Parade, etc.) with appropriate lead time and compelling messaging. Assist with event execution, photography, and follow-up communications. Create signage, programs, and other event-specific marketing materials. Support additional Chamber programming and events, as necessary. Internal Collaboration Work closely with Chamber staff and members to determine communication needs, priorities, and timelines. Provide support for membership communications and retention efforts. Serve as a liaison for promotional needs tied to advocacy, membership growth, members promotion, and sponsorships. Provide regular reporting of marketing metrics and offer advice on how to continue to expand the Chamber's reach and effectiveness. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or related field preferred—or equivalent experience. 2+ years experience in a communications, marketing, or social media role. Strong writing and editing skills with a conversational and engaging tone. Proficiency in Canva or similar design tools. Experience with email marketing platforms, Meta Business Suite, CapCut (or other video tools), and website CMS platforms (e.g., Wordpress, ChamberMaster/GrowthZone) preferred. Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects at once. Bonus Points For A sense of humor and creative flair that fits our warm, professional brand voice. Familiarity with the Chamber's work or marketing for membership-based organizations. Passion for community-building and supporting small businesses. Schedule Requirements This is an exempt position based on a 4o hr. work week The regular schedule will generally fall within normal Chamber office hours; however flexibility is required to accomodate early mornings, evenings and occasional weekends/holidays as needed for chamber events. Some weeks may require additional event related hours.
