Homeward Bound is the leading nonprofit organization in Buncombe County focused on preventing and ending homelessness using the best practice Housing First model. Position Overview:
As part of the Resource Development team, the Communications Specialist is a full-time hourly non-exempt position with benefits. Compensation for this position starts at $24.15/hour. In collaboration with Resource Development staff leaders, the Communications Specialist will create and execute a communications strategy to increase Homeward Bound's donor base and public awareness. The Communications Specialist will manage external communications and collateral ensuring Homeward Bound's message is consistent, appropriate, and engaging. The Communications Specialist will be responsible for creating informative and creative content to include newsletters, client stories, social media, marketing and advertising content, as well as updating and maintaining Homeward Bound's web site. The ideal candidate will be well adept at fundraising and communicating through the written and spoken word, social media, film, and web content.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required Three years of successful experience in fundraising and development work preferred Graphic design experience required Marketing experience required Excellent written and verbal communication skills Videography and video editing skills preferred Extensive experience with crafting social media posts Experience maintaining and updating websites Experience crafting newsletters and journals Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects Ability to work both independently and in a team Ability to Interview clients and write their stories Ability to work and partner with every department within the agency
DONOR RELATIONS
Collaborate with Resource Development team to ensure that donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders are nurtured and appreciated through engaging content Assist with the planning and execution of donor events and other tasks assigned by the Resource Development Director
COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES
Take the lead in coordinating monthly e-newsletters Generate content and layouts for digital and printed newsletters Update website regularly and add new content Lead photography for all events and occasions Draft and design direct mail pieces Design promotional materials and flyers as needed Develop a social media strategy and create content accordingly Produce, film, edit and distribute video content Design annual and impact reports Organize and design collateral and materials as needed for Resource Development events Educate and staff tables at events and speak in public on behalf of the agency
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Work with the Development Officer to ensure fulfillment of sponsorship benefits Coordinate the promotion (social media, e-newsletter, etc.) of community initiated events and REACH events Coordinate with Grant Director and Welcome Home Program Manager on thanking grantors and donors on social media and other outlets •This job description does not list all of your job duties.
