Job Summary Join our dynamic emergency response team as an Emergency Communications Specialist! In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for emergency calls, providing critical communication support to first responders, law enforcement agencies, medical personnel, and the public. Your energetic and proactive approach will ensure swift, accurate, and compassionate handling of emergency situations. You will utilize advanced communication systems and geographic information tools to coordinate responses effectively, making a real difference in community safety and well-being. Duties Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls using multi-line phone systems with professionalism and empathy. Perform phone triage to assess the nature of incidents, prioritize responses, and dispatch appropriate resources promptly. Operate radio communication systems and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software to coordinate law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other emergency services. Utilize GPS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools to identify incident locations accurately and provide precise directions to responders. Maintain detailed records of all communications, including transcription of messages and data entry into secure systems. Follow police dispatch procedures, emergency medical dispatch protocols, and first aid guidelines to ensure effective response coordination. Manage conflict situations with calm negotiation skills while maintaining security and safety during high-stress incidents. Qualifications Experience with law enforcement or police dispatch procedures enhances your suitability for this role. Strong communication skills with excellent phone etiquette, writing ability, and active listening skills are required. Demonstrated analysis skills for assessing situations quickly and accurately under pressure. Technical proficiency with telephony systems, data entry tools, transcription methods, and multi-line phones is necessary. Ability to handle sensitive information securely while managing conflict effectively in high-stakes scenarios.
