Job Description

Position Overview The Communications Specialist supports the development and execution of communication efforts that strengthen donor engagement and advance the mission of Chariots for Hope. This role contributes to the creation of clear and compelling content that helps supporters understand the depth, integrity, and long-term impact of our work with vulnerable children in Kenya. Communication is a key part of how donors experience the mission, understand the full ecosystem of care surrounding each child, and grow from awareness into deeper partnership. Working closely with field teams and internal staff, the Communications Specialist gathers and develops stories, visuals, and program updates, ensuring they are shared in a way that is accurate, respectful, and reflective of the dignity of every child. Content should consistently show how children are being cared for, discipled, and equipped for a stronger future. The role supports communication across digital platforms, donor materials, and campaigns, ensuring consistency in message, tone, and visual quality. Through this work, the Communications Specialist helps build trust with supporters and strengthen long-term relationships that sustain the mission and impact of Chariots for Hope. This is a part time role with partial benefits. Key Responsibilities Communication Planning and Execution Support the planning and execution of communication across all platforms. Maintain a consistent weekly and monthly communication rhythm. Ensure all content reflects the mission, values, and voice of Chariots for Hope. Align communication efforts with fundraising priorities and organizational goals. Content Development and Storytelling Gather and develop stories, photos, and videos from Kenya into clear, compelling content. Ensure all storytelling reflects dignity, respect, and the long-term impact of the work. Translate field updates into communication that is meaningful and easy for donors to understand. Maintain a steady flow of fresh, relevant content. Donor-Facing Materials Lead the development of key communication pieces, including the Annual Report, monthly newsletters, sponsor communication packets, and donor updates. Ensure all materials clearly communicate outcomes, impact, and the mission. Fundraising and Campaign Support Develop communication materials that support fundraising and advocacy campaigns. Collaborate with the Development team to align messaging with campaign goals. Help communicate the long-term value and impact of giving. Support donor journeys through clear and consistent messaging. Digital Platform Management Manage and update the website with current stories, updates, and resources. Oversee social media platforms including LinkedIn weekly and Facebook and Instagram three times per week. Ensure consistency in messaging, tone, and visual presentation across all platforms. Visual and Creative Production Design clear, professional materials using Canva or Adobe tools. Edit and produce short videos that communicate real stories and impact. Support visual storytelling that reflects dignity and authenticity. Maintain consistent visual standards across all communication. Coordination with Kenya-Based Communications Officer Provide clear direction on content needs and priorities. Work closely with the Kenya-based Communications Officer to identify and capture strong stories. Review and provide feedback on photos, videos, and story submissions. Ensure a consistent and reliable flow of content from the field. Quality, Ethics and Brand Integrity Ensure all communication reflects dignity, respect, and accuracy. Exercise strong judgment in how stories and images are shared, especially involving children. Maintain consistency in tone, messaging, and brand across all materials. Uphold the organization's values in all communication. Required Qualifications Professional Experience 1-3 years in communications, marketing, or nonprofit storytelling. Experience with social media management, website updates, Canva or Adobe tools, and basic video editing. Strong writing skills with the ability to communicate clearly and simply. Understanding of how communication supports donor engagement and fundraising. Faith Alignment A follower of Jesus Comfortable communicating faith in a natural and appropriate way. Alignment with the mission and values of Chariots for Hope. Core Skills Strong storytelling ability in written and visual formats. Organized and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Good judgment in how stories and images are shared, especially involving children. Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks. Comfortable working with a remote, cross-cultural team. What Success Looks Like Communication is consistent, clear, and well executed. Donors understand the impact and feel connected to the mission. Social media and website are active and up to date. Stories reflect dignity, hope, and real transformation. Strong working relationship with the Kenya-based Communications Officer. Communication supports fundraising and campaign efforts.
