Job Description

Job posting closes: 7/6/2026 This position performs administrative and technical work in receiving and relaying routine and emergency information. The employee will have the responsibility of: Answering phone for incoming administrative calls and direct proper extensions, non-emergency calls for police services Handling emergency calls for service, or redirect call to appropriate agency, when Keys input information into Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) for Bell County Communications Center (BCCC) Update information to BCCC when necessary either by CAD or radio Assisting officers in obtaining call information from CAD database Operating National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) terminal; entering persons/property into NCIC and TCIC; making inquiries to NCIC and TCIC for officers and jailers and sends teletype messages to other agencies Contacting personnel designated for callback; relaying information as required Assisting in training of new communications specialist Maintaining communication center work area and equipment in clean and working condition Performing local, county, state, and national warrant checks As an employee with the city of Killen some benefits are: Health insurance from United Health Care (United Health Care Plus for co-pay) Dental and Vision insurance Life insurance Retirement through TMRS (Optional 4579(b) Accounts) Paid Vacation and Sick Leave 13 paid holidays
Wellness Events & Free Gym Membership Required Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing and filing; and, Six (6) months of increasingly responsible related experience, or Any equivalent combination if related education and experience
Special Requirements:
Must pass a thorough background investigation Must attend a Basic Telecommunicator Course within one (2) year of hire at department's expense and must obtain a Telecommunicator License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement within one (1) year of hire Department of Public Safety Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunicator System (TLETS) terminal operator certification and 911 training. Employee will be required to attend school within six (6) months of hire at the department expense Must have a valid driver's license by date of hire Must obtain and maintain a Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire
