Job Type Full time Jobs in this group are typically responsible for managing internal and external communications for UVA Health. They develop and execute strategies for public relations, media outreach, and digital content to enhance visibility and engage with various audiences. These roles manage the university's reputation and relationships with media, community and stakeholders. Responsible for press releases, media inquiry handling, events, crisis management, and ensuring positive representation of UVA. What You'll Do Write compelling press releases, media advisories, and other communications on topics such as research, patient care , and institutional initiatives Identify and coordinate subject-matter experts for media opportunities Monitor news and proactively connect UVA Health experts to relevant, timely stories Respond to media inquiries quickly and accurately, including staffing the media relations hotline Support media events, interviews, and on-site coordination Assist with tracking media coverage and reporting key metrics Serve as on-call Public Information Officer as needed Collaborate with internal teams to ensure clear, consistent messaging What We're Looking For Strong writing and editing skills; candidates that demonstrate writing experience will be highly considered. Background in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field Ability to translate complex or scientific topics into clear, engaging content Strong judgment and responsiveness in a fast-paced environment Experience working in the media or working with the media in public relations or a similar role. Preferred Qualifications Journalism or science writing experience Experience working with media or in a deadline-driven environment
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience:
2 years related experience.
Licensure:
None required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. The starting base rate for this role is $65,000.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
